  • Two Regions Added to AYSO Cares

AYSO Cares badge February 11, 2015 Have you heard about AYSO Cares yet? This AYSO program acknowledges Regions who make a positive impact in their communities. AYSO Region 10 in Palos Verdes, Calif. and Region 715 in East Providence, R.I. were added to the growing list of 12 this week. Both Regions have done several things to help out in their communities. Region 10 donates money and equipment to the Get Give Go charity, whose mission is to help children in countries less fortunate enjoy soccer by giving them soccer balls, running shoes, etc. This Region also fully funded the origination of the charity’s website. “We are all in this together,” said Brent Daniel who is the Regional Commissioner of Region 10. “Helping one another and most importantly those in need teaches our kids the value of giving. Helping out in our community by working for those less fortunate greatens gratitude for what we do have.” Region 10 also hold food drives for a local shelter during their Opening Day Ceremony and Picture Day. This past year, they filled an entire truck from their collection efforts. Region 715 in East Providence, R.I., is also a new AYSO Cares recipient for the things they do to support their community. Each year, they collect food and toys for drives and collect gently used uniforms, cleats and balls to send overseas. The Region’s families also take part in Relay for Life and raised over $10,000 last year and holds a “Goal Pink” day to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for the Gloria Gemma Foundation. Each Region who is deemed an AYSO Cares recipient receives a badge to display on their website, social media and anywhere they see fit. We are adding new Regions regularly and hope that this movement encourages other Regions to take the next step in creating a positive impact in their communities. “We appreciate the notice and recognition,” said RC Brent Daniel. “It does wonders for me for recruitment of volunteers, further goodwill in the community and leverage when dealing with the city and school administrations.”

  • Think Before You Sign: How to Protect your Region’s Assets

With the arrival of the New Year, it’s a great time to refresh our memories on important guidelines to protect your Region’s financial assets, so your players’ fees can be focused on delivering great programs. Whenever your Region plans to enter into a contract – whether for field space, for uniform and supply vendors, event vendors, paid trainers or referees, or for rental space — make sure your contract is sent to the National Office for review before you sign it. Fine print in a contract can come back to haunt a Region. AYSO’s National Office and Legal Commission are available to review contracts to make sure your Region is protected and potential liabilities, indemnity and insurance are covered. It’s also important to note that AYSO’s national sponsors provide critical financing and in-kind goods to keep Regions’ player fees low and the support to AYSO’s Regions high – so before you finalize any local sponsorship arrangements, be sure to check first that it would not conflict with an existing exclusive national AYSO sponsorship. Your energy is best devoted to ensuring your Region delivers great programs and provides a fun, safe family environment to our kids. The AYSO National Office and Legal Commission are there to keep your legal hassles and unpleasant surprises to a minimum – so check in with Holly Veach or Kim Roberts Hedgpeth at the National Office before signing an agreement to make sure you’re covered!
